Reacting to the announcement of the new Prime Minister, Dr Liz Cameron CBE, Director & Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:
“Congratulations to Rishi Sunak who will serve as the UK’s first British-Asian prime minister after winning the Tory leadership race.
“He must now quickly deliver much needed stability and certainty for businesses and the country by immediately setting out how firms and households will be supported with energy bills and rising costs.
“Beyond this emergency support, we need to see a long-term economic plan for the UK. That plan must align with the priorities of the business community: increasing the flow of international skills and labour, fast-tracking infrastructure investment and boosting exports.
“This is a pivotal moment for the UK economy and we need business and government pulling in the same direction if we are to create economic growth that is badly needed across the whole of the UK.”
