It’s #ScottishApprenticeshipWeek2023!! This years theme is #UnlockingPotential – something that Chamber Member Old Plean Roofing Ltd has been able achieve through employing Adam (pictured below) as an Apprentice.
Old Plean Roofing are a local, experienced, reliable, and accredited Roofing, Building and Maintenance Company based in Stirling. Providing Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Roofing and Building Services to Central Scotland and beyond. They are proud to be members of NFRC, The Guild of Master Craftsmen, The Buy with Confidence Scheme, SCOTSS, CHAS and Constructionline.
To celebrate #ScotAppsWeek23 we asked them the following:
– What encouraged you to Unlock the Potential of a Young Person as an Apprentice in your business?
“We were invited to attend a job fair at Stirling Job Centre to showcase the opportunities available to young people considering a career in construction From this we employed two young people via the Kickstart scheme. After the initial 6-month placement we were able to provide an apprenticeship in Roof slating and tiling to one of the Kickstart participants.” – Fiona Thornton, Finance Director
– What support did you receive to employ the young person?
“We received support from the Kickstart scheme and CITB”.

Apprenticeships allow people from diverse backgrounds and abilities to gain and develop skills. These skills will support individuals throughout their life and in work. They’ll also support economic priorities and renewal, including Net Zero ambitions.
