Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education – and Stirling alumna – Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP has visited the University’s new Campus Central development, where she learned of the extensive range of student support on offer.
The University’s student experience is frequently applauded, particularly in relation to its campus environment. Stirling ranked second in the UK in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2018, and first in the UK and top three in the world in International Student Barometer 2022.
The award-winning Campus Central complex, which opened in 2021 after a £23m redevelopment, features vibrant, digitally connected spaces for socialising and study, as well as shops, cafés and the University’s Student Services Hub.
The Hub brings together a range of services, such as money advice, mental health resources, and visa and immigration guidance, to ensure that students can thrive during their time at the University.
Scottish Labour’s Duncan-Glancy, who was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2021, has a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Stirling, and served as welfare officer on the University’s student association.
Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP said: “Higher Education can be life-changing – I know my time at the University of Stirling was for me and I always relish the opportunity to come back.
“It’s essential that all students can get support and guidance to help them achieve their full potential. It’s fantastic that Stirling has developed a new Student Services Hub – developments like this make student support visible and easy to access which is vital for ensuring that students can find the help they need when they need it.”
Joanna Morrow, Deputy Secretary and Executive Director of Student, Academic and Corporate Services, said: “We were delighted to welcome Pam Duncan-Glancy back to the University of Stirling to see how our campus has been transformed.
“Strong support services are the foundation of a positive student experience, and we are proud to offer a suite of resources in a ‘one-stop-shop’ at the heart of our beautiful campus.”
